INSIDER TRADING – IS IT LEGAL OR ILLEGAL?

HOW  PREVALENT  IS INSIDER  TRADING ON STOCK MARKETS?

In the film WALL STREET by Oliver Stone, the super-rich Gordon Gecko went to jail for Insider Trading of  stocks.  Everyone  knows ‘INSIDER TRADING’ is illegal (at least in Canada and the USA), yet the rich do it all the time and rarely go to jail for this.  Has the USA or Canada changed this law since the 1980’s?  No!

Insider trading is when an investor buys or sells shares in a company because they obtained information from someone in the company or with privileged information.  This is illegal.  If you’re caught, you’re just going to pay a penalty.  It’s when you lie about it that you go to jail (much like tax cheating… it’s lying to the IRS/Revenue Canada  that gets you put away rather than the initial cheating).

Martha Stewart went to jail because she lied about her insider trading.  The amount in question was,  less than $200K US, which is pretty small potatoes to either Martha or the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC). But she thought the smart approach was to stand by her story that she did not break the law, when she did.  The SEC already had the facts and when she lied they arrested her.  If you don’t lie, but commit Insider Trading, you will most likely pay a penalty and get away with it  That is why the rich do it.  It is very profitable.

I am not a fan of Martha Stewart and laughed when she was forced into prison for Insider Trading.  I believe more super-rich oligarchs need to go to prison for their evil deeds, like Insider Trading.  I suspect these oligarchs from the majority of nations collude and herd us with False Flag events and the manipulation of our governments and industries. Yeah, I know = Conspiracy Theory. When does a Conspiracy Theory become the truth, if it is true?

Have you ever tried Insider Trading?
